Mary McAvoy

Mary is a theatre researcher, educator, and artist. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Theatre Research from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Education from the University of North Carolina Asheville. Prior to relocating to Madison, she taught theatre arts at University Park Creative Arts School in Charlotte, NC where she supervised grants administration, presented theatre arts education workshops, and served on the Arts Alliance, an organization committed to arts educator advocacy. She has directed extensively for both adults and young people (The Jungle Book, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Honk!, The Phantom Tollbooth, Am I Blue?, Othello, The Dutchman, and several original and devised works). She has presented research at the American Alliance of Theatre and Education and participated in the TYA/Childhood Studies Research Group the American Society of Theatre Research.
